Quick answer
In Spain, standard bed sizes are 90×190 (single), 105×190 (small double), 135×190 (classic double), 150×190 (the most common for couples today) and 160×200 or larger (extra-large). The standard length is 190 cm; 200 cm if someone is taller than 1.85 m. To find out what size will fit, add 60–70 cm to the width of the bed on each side you need to pass.

Standard bed size chart in Spain
Sizes are always given as width × length in centimetres and refer to the mattress: the bed base or storage bed has the same dimensions, while a bed with a headboard and legs takes up a few centimetres more.
| Common name | Size | Best for | Recommended room width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 80×190 · 90×190 · 90×200 | One person, children's or youth bedroom | From 2.10 m |
| Small double | 105×190 · 105×200 | One person who wants extra space | From 2.25 m |
| Classic double | 135×190 · 135×200 | Couples in a small bedroom | From 2.55 m |
| Large double | 140×190 · 140×200 | Couples who want a little more width | From 2.60 m |
| Queen (Spain) | 150×190 · 150×200 | The most popular choice for couples today | From 2.70 m |
| Extra-wide double | 160×190 · 160×200 | Couples who want more space without going for a king | From 2.80 m |
| King (Spain) | 180×200 · 200×200 | Couples with children or pets in bed, large bedrooms | From 3.00 m |

The recommended room width is the width of the bed plus 60 cm of walking space on one side and 60 cm on the other, rounded up. If the bed is against a wall, subtract those 60 cm.
Bed size by size: small double, 135 and 150
How big is a small double bed?
A small double bed measures 105×190 cm, or 105×200 cm if you are taller than 1.85 m. It is for one person who wants more space than a 90 cm single bed without taking up as much room as a double bed. View 105×190 mattresses
Can two people fit on a 105 cm bed?
They can, but each person is left with about 52 cm of width, which is less than on a 90 cm single bed. It is suitable for a one-off night, not for sleeping on every day. For two people, the minimum size is 135×190 cm. View 135×190 mattresses
How big is a 135 cm bed?
A 135 cm bed measures 135×190 cm, or 135×200 cm in the long version. It is the classic double bed in Spain and leaves about 67 cm of width per person. View 135×190 mattresses
How big is a 150 cm bed?
A 150 cm bed measures 150×190 cm, or 150×200 cm. It is the most popular choice for couples today: it leaves 75 cm per person, 15 cm more total width than a 135 cm bed. View 150×190 mattresses · 150×200
How to find out what size will fit in your bedroom
The rule we use: leave at least 60 cm of free space on each side you need to pass, and about 70 cm if you need to open a wardrobe or storage bed in front of it. Less than 60 cm forces you to squeeze past and becomes noticeable every day.
- Measure the usable width from wall to wall, subtracting skirting boards, radiators and the space needed for the door to open.
- Decide which sides you need to pass on. If two people sleep in the bed, it is normal to have access on both sides; a youth bed can go against the wall.
- Subtract 60 cm for each side you need to pass. What remains is the maximum bed width.
- Check the length: the bed plus the bedside table and the space at the foot, about 70 cm to pass.
- Measure the entrance: door, hallway, stairs and elevator. A rolled-up mattress or a disassembled storage bed will almost always fit; a one-piece bed base will not.
190 or 200 cm long
The standard length in Spain is 190 cm, and it is sufficient for people up to around 1.80 m tall. The practical rule: the mattress should be about 15–20 cm longer than the tallest person. If someone is 1.85 m or taller, choose 200 cm. We also manufacture some models in 210 cm long.
Have you outgrown your bed?
If you recognize two or more of these, you need a larger size
- You wake up when the other person moves
- Your feet hang over the edge of the mattress
- You sleep «each on your own side», unable to stretch out
- A child or pet sleeps with you
We manufacture sizes from 80×180 to 200×200. Try it for 100 nights at home and, if you are not convinced, we will collect it.
Queen, king and international equivalents
«Queen» and «king» are American names that are used approximately in Spain: here a queen is usually 150×190 and a king, 180×200. They are not identical to American sizes, and that matters when buying sheets or furniture abroad.
| In Spain | Size | US name | Actual US size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 90×190 | Twin | 99×191 cm |
| Small double | 105×190 | Twin XL | 99×203 cm |
| Double | 135×190 | Full / Double | 137×191 cm |
| Queen | 150×190 | Queen | 152×203 cm |
| King | 180×200 | King | 193×203 cm |
In other words: the American king is considerably wider than what we call a king here. If you buy bedding from a foreign website, look at the centimetres, not the name.
Which size is right for you
How many people sleep in the bed and how big is the room?
Who sleeps in the bed?
Room width
The classic double. It fits in narrow bedrooms while leaving room to pass on both sides; if the room is less than 2.55 m, one side will have to be pushed against the wall.
The most popular choice for couples today: the extra 15 cm of width compared to a 135 cm bed makes a big difference when turning over. In a 2.70 m room, it fits with room to pass on both sides.
For those who want real space, or if a child or pet sleeps with you. We also manufacture 180×200 and 200×200.
The standard single. If the room is large and you sleep alone, a 105×190 changes the sense of space considerably for just a little more room.
The small double: sleep alone with room to move without taking up as much space as a double bed.
The size is selected on each mattress product page. We manufacture sizes from 80×180 to 200×200, and some models in 210 cm long.
How to measure your current mattress and special sizes
Remove the sheets and cover and measure the bare mattress: the width from edge to edge across the center, the length from headboard to foot, also across the center, and the thickness in one corner without squeezing. Round to the nearest standard size; it is normal for it to measure 1 or 2 cm less due to manufacturing tolerances and use. If you are also changing the bed base, measure the base and not the old mattress: in a storage bed, the size that counts is that of the top where the mattress rests, not the outer drawer.
Some beds do not follow the standard: old 135×180 box springs, adjustable beds, custom-made bunk beds or camper beds. Check if a nearby standard size will fit: two or three centimetres less in width are not noticeable when sleeping; larger ones simply will not fit. And if you are taller than 1.90 m, some of our models are also manufactured in 150×210 and 160×210.
Mattress and bed base height also count
The size tells you if the bed will fit; the height tells you if it is comfortable to get in and out of. Adding the base and mattress, the usual height is between 50 and 60 cm. Our mattresses measure between 26 and 32 cm, and the bases between 24 and 32.5 cm.
A smaller base leaves the mattress unsupported at the edges and eventually deforms it. The Kos Base is available from 80×190 to 200×200.
Bedsheets and bedding: what size to buy
- Fitted sheet: the width of your mattress, also considering the height. With 30 cm mattresses, look for deep pocket fitted sheets (30–35 cm) or they will slip out at the corners.
- Duvet cover and duvet: buy one size «up» from the mattress, so they hang down the sides. For 150×190, a 240×260 duvet is standard.
- Pillows: for 135 and 140, one 135 cm pillow or two 70 cm pillows are usually used; for 150 and 160, two 75 or 80 cm pillows.
