Sleep setup: how to choose a mattress, bed base, pillow, and protector

In short

A sleep system consists of four pieces that work together: mattress, support, pillow, and protector. The mattress determines how you wake up; the support determines how long the mattress lasts; the pillow determines how your neck feels in the morning; and the protector determines whether, five years later, the mattress is still the one you bought. At Morfeo, we make all four to order in Yecla, with 100 nights to try the mattress and home assembly included.

What is a sleep system

We call the set of pieces you sleep on a sleep system. It is not a marketing label: each one affects the next. An excellent mattress on a sagging base will deform. A perfect pillow with a mattress that does not support your hips will not fix your neck. And a mattress without a protector loses its properties to sweat and moisture long before its warranty expires.

There are four:

  • The mattress. It supports your spine and regulates temperature. It is the big decision.
  • The support. Base or storage bed. It ventilates the mattress and distributes its weight.
  • The pillow. It aligns the neck with the spine. It depends on your sleeping position.
  • The protector. Protector and bedding. It is the affordable item that preserves the expensive one.

The most common mistake

Spending the entire budget on the mattress and keeping the old base. If the support gives way, the mattress adapts to that deformation, and the warranty does not cover damage caused by an inadequate support. Before buying a mattress, check what is underneath.

The mattress: the six models and which one is right for you

At Morfeo, there are six mattresses. They are not six versions of the same product at different prices: each one solves a different situation.

Model Height Firmness What sets it apart Price
Juvenil Lite 22 cm Medium HR core, washable cover and lightweight profile. Designed for children and teenagers aged 4 to 18 See price
Original Hybrid 26 cm Firm Nine layers with pocket springs and Stretch Sanitized® fabric. The balanced model in the range See price
Altus 28 cm Medium-firm More than 2,000 pocket springs and natural linen outer fabric See price
VisCool 26 cm Firm PCM temperature-regulating top fabric over pocket springs and an HR base. For those who feel hot See price
Morfeo XL 30 cm Reinforced firm Reinforced pocket springs. The only one designed for people over 100 kg See price
Nature 32 cm Medium Natural latex and tufted padding. The tallest and most welcoming in the range See price

The weight rule

All Morfeo mattresses are guaranteed up to 95 kg per person. If you weigh more than 95 kg, the right model for you is the XL, and not for comfort: its core is reinforced for that weight. Choosing a lower model shortens the mattress's life and leaves you without a warranty.

Find your mattress in two clicks

Select who will sleep on it and what you are looking for:

1. Who will sleep on it?

2. What are you looking for?

Juvenil Lite Mattress

Medium firmness and 22 cm, which is the right height for a body that still weighs very little: an adult mattress would be too firm. The cover is washable, which is no minor detail with children. It covers ages 4 to 18.

See the Juvenil Lite

Original Hybrid Mattress

This is the one we recommend by default: nine layers, pocket springs, and firm firmness, with Stretch Sanitized® fabric on the side that touches your skin. If you do not have a special need, this is the one for you.

See the Original Hybrid

Original Hybrid Mattress

For couples, what matters is that the pocket springs are individually encased: each one only sinks where it receives weight, so if your partner moves or gets up in the middle of the night, you will not notice. That is the difference compared to a continuous foam core.

See the Original Hybrid

Morfeo XL Mattress

The only one in the range with reinforced pocket springs for over 100 kg, with a height of 30 cm and firm firmness. It is not an expensive version of the others: it has a different core. The other models are guaranteed up to 95 kg per person.

See the Morfeo XL

Juvenil Lite Mattress

We will be clear: it is the only youth model in the range, so there is no premium version here. And that is the right thing: choosing an adult mattress just to spend more would be a mistake, because firm firmness is not suitable for a body that is still growing.

See the Juvenil Lite

Nature Mattress

The top of the range: 32 cm, natural latex, and tufted padding. Medium firmness and the most welcoming feel in the range. If you feel hot, the VisCool and Altus are cooler. If you prefer natural materials on display, the Altus has a natural linen outer fabric.

Altus Mattress

More than 2,000 pocket springs, which is the number that matters when you sleep with someone: the more independent springs, the greater the sleep separation. Medium-firm firmness and natural linen outer fabric.

Morfeo XL Mattress

For over 95 kg, there is no premium alternative we can recommend, and we prefer to tell you that rather than sell you something else: the XL is the only one with a core reinforced for that weight. Any other model, no matter how expensive, will fall short.

Do you feel hot at night? Then check out the VisCool: it features a PCM top fabric, a phase-change material that absorbs heat when your body temperature rises and releases it when it falls.

The support: base or storage bed

The question is not which one is better, but whether you need to store things under the bed.

Upholstered base Folding storage bed
Storage No Yes, the entire interior of the bed
Overall height Lower Higher
Price See prices See prices
It is right for you if You have enough wardrobe space and are looking for a lighter design You live in an apartment where every meter counts

For bases, we have the Kos with Nordic legs, and the Silos, Samos and Naxos if you are looking for something more elaborate. For storage beds, the wooden Rodas, and the upholstered Saona and Duna.

The pillow: height is key

Of the four pieces, the pillow is the one most people choose incorrectly. And the criterion is simple: the pillow must fill the gap between your neck and the mattress. That gap is determined by your sleeping position.

If you sleep… Height Model Price
On your back or stomach 12 cm Soft Calma pillow See price
Changing positions 13 cm Morfeo SojaVisco® pillow See price
On your side 18 cm Morfeo AirHigh® pillow See price

You need the most height when sleeping on your side, because the distance from your shoulder to your ear is the greatest of the three positions. If you sleep on your side with a low pillow, your neck spends the night bent downward, and that is what wakes up with a cramp.

The protector: what extends the life of the mattress

A mattress absorbs sweat every night. That is the real reason it loses its properties prematurely, and it is also the easiest thing to prevent: a protector costs a fraction of the mattress and is washable.

Protector What it is for Price
Tencel Protector Waterproof and breathable at the same time. The default option See price
FreshCool® Protector With a cooling effect, if you feel hot See price

And to complete the bed, we have bedding: EcoPercal sheet sets, duvets, and organic percale cotton pillowcases.

If you are going to replace the entire set

The order that makes sense is: first the support, because if it is sagging, it will ruin whatever you put on top; then the mattress; and once the mattress is chosen, the pillow and the protector. Buying it all together is better.

Trial, warranty, delivery and assembly

  1. 100 nights to try. You sleep on it for three long months. No fine print: the trial covers the mattress, not the other pieces in a pack.
  2. Warranty. 10 years on mattresses and 3 years on furniture: bases, storage beds, and headboards.
  3. Delivery. Mattresses in 3-7 business days (mainland Spain); bases, storage beds, and headboards in 12 business days. We make them to order in Spain, in Yecla. There is no stock waiting in a warehouse: your mattress is made when you order it.
  4. Assembly included. We bring it to your home and assemble it at no additional cost, as well as storage beds and bases.
  5. Installment payments. You can pay in 3 interest-free installments with Klarna or in 4 with Alma, at the same price you see on the website. How installment payments work.

Frequently asked questions

How many mattresses does Morfeo have and how do they differ?

Six. The Juvenil Lite for children and teenagers aged 4 to 18; the Original Hybrid, the balanced model in the range with nine layers and pocket springs; the Altus, 28 cm, with more than 2,000 pocket springs and natural linen fabric; the VisCool, with PCM temperature-regulating fabric for those who feel hot; the Morfeo XL, reinforced for people over 100 kg; and the Nature, with natural latex and 32 cm, the top of the range.

What mattress do I need if I weigh more than 95 kg?

The Morfeo XL Mattress. All Morfeo mattresses are guaranteed up to 95 kg per person, and the XL is the only one with reinforced pocket springs for over 100 kg. It is not a matter of comfort: a core that is not sized for that weight will deform sooner and will be outside the warranty.

What pillow height is right for me?

It depends on your position. On your back or stomach, 12 cm, which is the Calma Pillow. If you change positions during the night, 13 cm, the SojaVisco. If you sleep on your side, 18 cm, the AirHigh, because the distance from your shoulder to your ear is greater and you need more filling to keep your neck aligned.

Base or storage bed?

Storage bed if you need storage: it opens and the entire interior of the bed is available. Upholstered base if you have enough wardrobe space and prefer a lighter design and less height.

Do you need a mattress protector?

Yes, and it is the most cost-effective piece in the set. A mattress absorbs sweat and moisture every night, and that is what makes it lose its properties before its warranty expires. A Tencel protector is waterproof and breathable at the same time, and it is washable.

How long does delivery take and who assembles it?

Mattresses arrive within 3–7 business days (mainland Spain); bed bases, storage beds, and headboards arrive within 12 business days. We manufacture to order in Yecla, so your mattress is produced when you place your order. Assembly is always included, at your home and at no additional cost, and also applies to storage beds and bed bases.

If you’re only going to change one thing this year

Let it be the mattress. And if you don’t have a specific need, the Original Hybrid is our default recommendation. You have 100 nights to decide if we got it right.
