🛏 The mattress
That essential element that gives us so much comfort when it's time to rest. However, over time or with use, the mattress deteriorates. Taking care of our mattress must be an ongoing task.
If we want to keep it in the best condition for longer, we must not neglect its maintenance and care. This way, we will be able to enjoy the best possible rest.
We often tend to neglect our mattress because we don't know that it requires maintenance. Generally, because the damage is not visible, we fail to realize the importance of preserving and caring for the mattress every day.
The mattress is an item for exclusive and personal use, which we use for a long time, so it must be properly cared for.

Do mattresses wear out?
With use and the passage of time, the quality and resilience of mattresses gradually decline. At this point, little maintenance or care can be applied, and the mattress must be replaced. Even if the mattress has been cared for periodically, it must be replaced to ensure good sleep quality. According to the Spanish Bedding Association (ASOCAMA), a mattress should be replaced before 10 years.
With just a small routine or a few simple steps to follow daily, you can help preserve and maintain your mattress for longer. What needs to be done? Keep reading!

As sleep specialists, at Morfeo, we want to share some tips with you to care for and extend the life of your mattress. Take note!
1. Ventilation
It is important to ventilate the bedroom and its bedding every day. All rooms in a house should be aired daily, as this eliminates unpleasant odors and bacteria, and reduces moisture and heat in the mattress. To do this, you should ventilate the bedroom with the bed open and the sheets removed.
Good mattress hygiene is as simple as opening the window and letting the bed air out for at least 10 minutes before making the bed or changing the sheets.
2. Changing position
To ensure that the mattress does not lose its ergonomics due to deformations caused by the body's weight or pressure while sleeping, you must change the position of the mattress periodically. How often? At least about 4 times a year, for example, with the change of seasons. This change of position should be: from left to right and from head to foot. By rotating it this way, we prevent the rapid deterioration and sagging of the mattress caused by the pressure exerted by our body while sleeping night after night.
3. Protection
Cleaning the mattress and box spring is not a simple process, and its good condition cannot always be restored. Therefore, it is advisable to protect it with a cover. It is best to use 100% breathable covers and materials so that they do not interfere with the quality of our sleep. This cover should only cover the surface closest to the body and leave the other side exposed to the air, ensuring proper ventilation. It should also be washable so that it can be changed along with the bedding, ensuring that it is always clean and in perfect condition.
At Morfeo, we are committed to the latest developments in sleep technology. This includes incorporating the best materials, such as bamboo. Bamboo protectors are the latest trend because they:
- Are highly breathable.
- Are ideal for sensitive skin.
- Are hypoallergenic.
- Are antimicrobial.
- Insulate moisture and regulate temperature while sleeping.
Although it may seem like a small thing, having a bed cover or protector is a very simple step that considerably helps maintain and preserve our mattress.
4. Choosing the right base
The base is an element to consider for proper mattress maintenance. Why?
- Choosing an unsuitable base can damage the quality of sleep and the mattress.
- A base in poor condition can damage the mattress.
- The base must be suited to the type of mattress.
- A base in poor condition or that is not suitable can cause the mattress to adapt poorly.
- In addition, it can affect the durability and comfort of our sleep system.
5. Good hygiene
Washing the bedding periodically will help keep mites and bacteria away, ensuring the durability of the mattress. At least once a week, the bedding should be changed, and the bedroom and mattress should be ventilated again.
If you also want to maximize the durability of your mattress, there are some cleaning tricks that can help you. We have already talked about them in our post: Tips for cleaning the mattress. With these simple steps, you can ensure that the mattress lasts longer, ensuring a good night's sleep.
