“Tell me how you sleep and I’ll tell you who you are” is a popular expression referring to how sleep habits can reveal important aspects of a person’s personality and lifestyle. Some surveys on sleeping positions have played with this idea, although it is best taken as a curiosity rather than science.
In this article, we will delve into how sleep habits can reflect a person’s personality and lifestyle, and how these habits can affect their physical and mental health. We will also offer tips and strategies to improve sleep quality and enjoy a healthier, more balanced life.

Tell me how you sleep and I’ll tell you who you are
Sleep is essential for the body and its functions. Besides, there is nothing more pleasant than coming home, putting on your pajamas, and falling into Morpheus’s arms. For many people, it is the most anticipated moment of the day, as it allows them to rest from the day and recharge their batteries.
A study on sleep conducted by Professor Chris Idzikowski (director of the UK Sleep Information Service), in which he surveyed various people, determines certain types of behaviors and attitudes according to how they sleep. Although we adopt different positions throughout our lives, there is always a position in which we feel more comfortable when sleeping.
Sleep is not only a vital function, but also a state in which we adopt certain positions without hardly being aware of it. The truth is that the way each person sleeps says a lot about their personality and health. Want to know what your sleeping style says about you? We’ll tell you below.

-
Newborn babies are recommended to get between 14 and 17 hours a day.
-
Children in early childhood, between 10-12 hours.
-
School-aged children, approximately 10 hours.
-
Teenagers, approximately 9 hours.
-
Adults, between 7-9 hours.
Sleeping positions
There are many types of positions that are adopted when sleeping; here we will only list the most common ones. But if the position you sleep in is not among them, we invite you to share it with us 😉
Everyone’s sleeping style is as diverse as people themselves. Is one position better than another? Does the side of the bed affect your rest? These are things we often overlook; however, they can say a lot about you and your health. After all, certain positions or postures repeated daily can cause back problems or health issues over time.
Below we show you the main sleeping positions. Which one is yours? Keep reading to see if it’s there 👇

1. Freefall
This sleeping position consists of: sleeping face down, with your arms hugging the pillow and your head turned to one side. There is another variation of this sleeping position in which the arms and legs are placed outward.
What does this position say about me?
Those who sleep in this position are usually extroverted, sociable, wild, direct, and highly empathetic people. If your leg is raised in this position, it may mean that you have an unpredictable and changeable personality.
If your arms and legs are outward, it means you are an impulsive person with initiative who likes to plan and organize things.
Health
When sleeping face down, you have to turn your head to one side to breathe, so your neck spends the night twisted. If this is your position, use a very low and soft pillow, such as the Calma pillow (12 cm), the only Morfeo pillow designed for sleeping face down.
2. Fetal position
The fetal position is when we curl up and our legs and arms are close together. It is one of the most common positions, especially for women.
What does it mean?
Normally, people who sleep in this position are associated with shyness and sensitivity. On the outside, they appear strong and cold, but on the inside, they are much more sensitive than they seem. It is said that adopting this position is a way to escape what surrounds you. Furthermore, since it is a side-sleeping position, it usually reduces snoring.
Health
The fetal position involves placing the body in a forced position, which over time can cause back and neck problems and pain.
3. Log
This type of sleeping position is named so because of its rigidity. The body is positioned on its side (right or left) but very straight, forming a straight line.
What it says about me
People who usually sleep this way are sociable and calm, although somewhat distrustful.
Health
The advantage of sleeping in this position is that by keeping the spine straight, it is usually comfortable for those who experience back discomfort.
4. Nostalgic
This sleeping position involves lying on your side, on one arm, with both arms extended to the same side. This way of sleeping is as if you were reaching out to hug someone while you sleep.
What does it say about me?
It means you are a reserved, calm, and reliable person. However, you usually find it difficult to make decisions and are a bit cynical.
Health
Sleeping on your side is usually more comfortable for those who have acid reflux or snore; if you suspect you have sleep apnea, consult your doctor. Ideally, place a pillow under your arm to make this position more comfortable.
5. Soldier position
What does this position consist of? Sleeping on your back with your arms resting on your chest or on both sides of your body.
Its meaning
These types of people are usually very demanding and somewhat reserved. But they have very clear goals, ideas, and objectives for their lives.
Health
This is the least advisable position for rest, as it promotes snoring and makes it difficult for air to circulate properly during breathing. It is usually not suitable for people who snore or are overweight.
6. Starfish
The improvised or starfish sleeping position is a position in which the arms and legs are extended as if they were a star.
What does it mean?
This position is associated with sociable people who know how to listen and enjoy doing so, are good friends, and like to help others.
Health
As in the previous case, this type of position promotes snoring during sleep. If you are looking to get the best rest, this may not be the most suitable sleeping position.
7. Sleeping with children
When children sneak into bed, adults usually end up on the edge, in forced positions and waking up more often. It is not a position with a “meaning,” but it is a frequent cause of poor rest: if it happens often, a wider bed and a mattress with good bed independence make their movements less noticeable.
Morfeo’s recommendation
Your position determines which mattress and pillow you need
A position only provides rest if the mattress supports it. Those who sleep on their side need their shoulder and hip to sink just enough; those who sleep on their back need their lumbar area not to be left hanging in the air. The pillow finishes the job by keeping the neck aligned with the spine.

Original Hybrid Mattress
Pocket springs and progressive support: it adapts to the shoulder and hip without leaving a gap in the lumbar area.

Sleeping positions recommended by Morfeo
Sleeping in different positions is good for your health, as constantly adopting a single position can create an imbalance and cause pain in certain areas. Adopting various sleeping positions means you have a multifaceted personality.
Although it is advisable to vary the sleeping position we use, according to Professor Chris Idzikowski, most people are reluctant to change their sleeping position and feel comfortable in their usual position. But there are also those who sleep in one position or another depending on how their day went. Which type are you?
Having a good sleep setup is just as important as the position you choose to sleep in. Our Original Hybrid mattress adapts to your position and movements, and its bed independence makes your partner’s movements less noticeable. Furthermore, you can try it for 100 nights.

In summary, “tell me how you sleep and I’ll tell you who you are” is more of a fun curiosity than an exact science. Furthermore, sleep habits can significantly affect a person’s physical and mental health, so it is important to take care of the quality and quantity of sleep you get to enjoy a healthier, more balanced life. By following some simple tips and strategies, you can improve your sleep habits and enjoy a better quality of life.
