How to make a teepee at home

It is increasingly common to find or use Indian teepees to decorate children's rooms. It is an original resource that allows you to create a space for children. 

As a place to play, rest, read... Tipis allow for many activities to take place inside them, and children love them. Some of you may be wondering what a tipi is, so we'll explain it below.


What is a teepee?

It is a type of tent typical of the indigenous peoples of North America. Today, it has become a much-loved item for children, as it allows them to have their own little corner. And we can find countless ideas on blogs and children's decor websites.

This idea allows you to have fun, build something together, and give them a useful and decorative space to use: for naps, reading, games, etc. It can be used as a decorative element in children's rooms, for outdoor decoration, for playgrounds, sleepovers, and a whole host of other possibilities. But how can we make a teepee at home? 

It's very simple, and we'll explain it to you below.


DIY: Make your own teepee

Tipis are sold in many places, but you can also make them yourself at home, which is a very fun activity to do with the family.

Materials

  • Four wooden bars or sticks.
  • Fabric of your choice (180 cm x 270 cm).
  • Rope for securing.
  • Screws.
  • Scissors.
  • Drill.
  • Screwdriver.

Make a teepee

Once we have all the materials, it's very simple. First, take the rope and cut a long piece. Remember that it will join the sticks together, so it needs to be long. 

We seal the ends with a lit candle or lighter to prevent the rope from fraying. Then we take the drill and make a hole in the top of each of the bars (they must all be at the same height). This allows us to thread the rope through and secure it more firmly.

We put the rope on one of the bars and tie a knot at one end. Now we pass another bar through and reinforce it with the rope, wrapping it two or three times and moving on to another bar. We repeat the process until all the bars are joined together, wrap them to secure them in place, and check that the structure is firmly fixed.

Now it's time to put the fabric on. You can measure it before or after placing it on the frame. Wrap the fabric around the frame and secure it with screws to ensure it doesn't fall off. And that's it!

We can also add decorations such as pennants, lanterns, dreamcatchers, fabrics, and anything else we can think of to decorate our teepee.



You can also simplify the assembly and use only rope as a means of fastening, both for the poles and then to hold the fabric in place. 

If you can't get all the materials, don't worry, you can improvise your own teepee with some chairs, fabric, and a little imagination 🙂 You can even incorporate it into your kids' bed to make their nights more fun.
