Interview with sleep specialist on the Sueña con Morfeo podcast
PSM:
Dr. Ruiz, welcome to the Sueña con Morfeo podcast. This medical discipline is almost completely unknown to me, so first I would like you to tell us what a sleep specialist does and what their day-to-day work is like.
PSM:
You just mentioned daytime disturbances that affect sleep. I find this very interesting. How are these types of disturbances detected when there does not appear to be any obvious disorder during nighttime sleep?
PSM:
When we talk about sleep, we mention rest, but to what extent can we equate the two terms, or is rest something more complex than sleeping at night?
PSM:
Continuing with the topic of rest, there is a question that has always intrigued me, especially when it comes to people who say that without a good nap they cannot get through the day. Does a nap replace the rest that we cannot always enjoy at night?
PSM:
So we need a long sleep at night in order to get a good rest and healthy sleep. I understand, then, that sleeping 8 hours straight is not the same as sleeping twice for 4 hours throughout the day.
PSM:
Based on your experience in your practice, can you talk about some of the most common sleep disorders that affect the population?
PSM:
How far does a sleep doctor go to diagnose a condition, and when do they need other medical specialists to make a proper diagnosis?
PSM:
Are people aware of the importance of getting a good night's sleep? Should we pay more attention to this?
PSM:
To conclude today's episode, I'm going to finish the interview with the most complicated question of all. Can you give us some advice on how to sleep better? Just one piece of advice, although I know that might be oversimplifying things.
That concludes our interview with Dr. Pablo Ruiz, sleep specialist at Dr. Estivill's clinic. It has been a pleasure to have you with us, and we hope to see you again in the future.
